Flat Front Shutter Card Birthday

Hello Everyone:

Anita here with a fun and easy tutorial for the Flat Front Shutter Card Birthday which you can find here in Lori’s store and here in the Silhouette Design Store.  I used one of Lori’s brand new Echo Park lines called Sweet Baby Girl.  It was perfect for a soft and feminine card.

Here are all the pieces.  There are several that are small so remember to keep track of them.

I put together the pieces of the card and  glued everything down before I started folding.  It is much easier to work on the folds that way.

Your first step is to crease the fold to the right of the cake and you will be folding it so it pops up when lying flat.

I held the card in my left hand and pressed gently down on the middle score line with my left hand and held it in place while I used my right hand to score it across the fold.  You will be creating a valley fold here.  As you can see the folds on the top and bottom of that section just naturally pop up the way that they are supposed to be creating hill folds.

I folded up the right side of the card and used a bone folder to gently strengthen my score marks.  On the smaller pieces you will be scoring through two of the folds.

Here is a view from the top so you can see exactly what it should look like.

Lastly, here is the closed card and as you can see it lays flat and can be popped in an A2 envelope to be sent off to someone sweet.

Baby Mini Album with Anita

Hi Everyone:

Anita here with a fun tutorial to make this mini baby album.  My brother’s girlfriend just became a grandmother of a beautiful baby boy and I made this album for her to fill and to share with her friends.

This is a photo of the cut file.  It is called Baby Layered Mini Album and you can find it in Lori’s store and in the Silhouette Store.  I mixed and matched some wonderful collections  from Echo Park to make my album including A Perfect Winter, A Perfect Autumn, A Perfect Christmas and I Love Family.  I bought 1.5 inch colored rings from Amazon for the album.

I decided that I wanted each page the same print/color so I used the replicate function on my Silhouette to mirror the left tabbed page to the right so that I could glue them together to create a heavier page.  I then cut both pages from the same paper and adhered them back to back.

I then  used the rectangle tool on the left side bar to create a white piece to be a photo mat.    I like to put the item I am trying to match the size on my mat.

Here is a photo that shows the other rectangles that I created for the pages of my album.  I then cut two of each for each page of the album.

 

I used Lori’s font called Wide Marker at the 56.0 font size and moved them on to the bottle to see how it would look.

There you have it.  This worked up very quickly and it so cute.  Can’t wait to send it off to it’s recipient.

Christmas Thank You Cards with Anita

Anita here with a post holiday thank you card set.  I am always touched by the generosity of others during the holiday season and always like to take a moment to thank them for thinking of me.  Lori has some wonderful cut files to use for just this purpose.  I used one of her new Echo Park collections which is called A Perfect Winter.  I just love the patterns and colors and the embellishments are swoon worthy.  I used the following cut files to make these cards.  I am going to put the names of the files below each card as the names are very similar.

Holiday Dog Bandanas with Anita

Hi:

Anita here with a fun and easy tutorial to make your furry friend a dog bandanna.  My son and daughter-in-law have three dogs and they like to include them in their Christmas photo.  I made some personalized bandannas for my fur grand dogs using some of Lori’s fun fonts and heart cut files.  For Lily and Sully’s bandannas, I used the Wide Marker font at 288.0 pt which can be found here in Lori’s store and here in the Silhouette store.    For Scout’s bandanna I used LW Thick at 288.0 pt which can be found here in Lori’s store and here in the Silhouette store.  The cut file for the hearts is called 4 hearts and can be found here in Lori’s store and here in the Silhouette store.   I found a doggie bandanna pattern on the internet from Sew Caroline and the free pattern is here.

Here are the supplies that I used for Lilly’s bandanna.  You can really use any heat transfer vinyl.

I measured across the part of the bandanna where I wanted to put the letters so that I would have a sense of how wide the name could be and fit nicely.

Lori’s fonts are so easy to find in your Silhouette font library and they start with the letters LW.

I had fun experimenting with some of Lori’s different fonts to see which one I liked the best.

 

Heat transfer vinyl has a clear plastic sheet which is sticky over the front of the vinyl which allows you to protect the vinyl while ironing it on.  You are going to want to place it with this clear/front side face down on your mat.  You can cut vinyl without a mat but I didn’t want to move my rollers so I put it on a mat.

As you can see from above there are many different types of heat transfer vinyl.  I chose to use a metallic one so that is what I selected in the cut settings.  Notice that the letters are not mirrored on my mat.

Isn’t Silhouette so smart?  They know I am cutting with vinyl and asked me if I wanted to mirror my design.  Given that I was cutting out letters I said to send them mirrored.  I also chose to do two passes as my blade isn’t brand new and I was asking it to cut through three layers.  I could also have mirrored it before sending it to cut.

Wows, my mat is looking well-loved.  Here are the letters cut out and the extra vinyl removed.  Don’t remove the top plastic sheet, you need it on until the letters are ironed down.

Everything is ironed down now.  I used a plastic pressing sheet and did not heat it for the 45-60 seconds as they recommend on the package because my iron runs really hot and I didn’t want to bubble the vinyl. I usually choose a middle point and put the first letter down there and then add the rest one at a time.  I find that things move less that way when ironing.  Apply even pressure, not steam and don’t move your iron back and forth.

I used Velcro circles on each corner point and stitched them down.  I used a seam ripper to gently peel away the top plastic piece, you could also use a pin.   If the vinyl starts to pull up then you might have to reheat it.  Be careful to not overheat it.

Baby Month Sign with Anita

Hello Everyone:

Happy Monday.  I made this sign set for a friend’s daughter who is having a baby in January.  I used Lori’s cut file called Baby T-Shirt Months which you can find here in her store and here in the Silhouette Store.   I also used Scalloped Shapes for the background of my months and you can find that file here in her store and here in the Silhouette Store.  I used Lori’s Echo Park collections called Happiness is Homemade and I Love Family.

I bought a chalkboard stand online and put two sided sticky tape on the back of each oval and then stuck a piece of wax paper over the tape so that they wouldn’t stick together.
