Silhouette Tutorial: How to Make Smooth Score Lines and Cut in One Step

Hi everyone, Linda here from Paper Boutique with Linda. In today’s video tutorial, I demonstrate how to make smooth score lines and cut in one step using your Silhouette Cameo.

I used this technique on Lori’s 5 x7 serving tray (# 48179) that I purchased from the Silhouette on-line store and it turned out perfectly. I love how cute these mini cupcakes look on this tray! To make the toppers, I used the spider from Lori’s Cute Halloween Set . Her set also comes with an adorable pumpkin and ghost. I used washi tape and attached the toppers to a toothpick.

Notice how smooth the score lines are. Please see the video below for detailed directions on how to make smooth score lines.

Hope you enjoyed the video and have a wonderful day!

  1. Thank you so much Linda for this informative video. I really dislike obvious score lines, so I will definitely give this a try. It sounds very logical!

  2. Thanks for the video! I was just finished 35 treat bags made with a die cut. My husband asked why I did not use my Cameo, I told him I did not like the way the score lines go all the way through. My only issue is I have not upgraded to the latest version of Designer, I have heard some people were having problems with it. I am definitely going to bookmark this post.

  3. Thank you for this great tutorial! Your tutorial makes so much sense and I appreciate you taking the time to put this together. I also do not care for the tic marks that you get when working on a project with any machine. You’ve made me happy! Thanks again!

  4. Great video! I love learning all theses little “tricks”; the “manual” sure doesn’t get this involved!
    …keep’em coming!

  5. Oh how fabulous!! I was just doing the pencil with eraser lid yesterday and though boy those score lines look like someone chewed through the paper! I looked for a tutorial on the pencil thinking I might find a secret there but there was NO tutorial for it.
So great to know how to do the scoring so it’s less obvious!! TFS!!

  6. Thank you so much, Linda!!! I had no idea this technique was possible. I often use score lines, but didn’t know the lines could be adjusted for a smoother look without having to physically change the ratchet setting making it a two step operation. This is really going to be a time save plus the score lines are smooth and beautiful. I really appreciate this tip.
